An attorney for the Philippines government was fatally shot in Philadelphia this weekend while in an Uber on the way to the airport, as investigators still haven’t disclosed a motive as of Monday morning.

John Albert Laylo, an attorney for the government of the Philippines, and his mother were headed to Philadelphia International Airport to board a flight early Saturday when police say an unidentified suspect in a black car fired several rounds around 4:10 a.m. into their Uber at a red light near the University of Pennsylvania.

Laylo was shot in the back of the head and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead Sunday morning, police said. No arrests have been announced as of early Monday.

“Too many guns. Doesn’t matter if it’s a tourist from the Philippines or one of our native-born Philadelphians, there are too many damn guns in Pennsylvania and Philadelphia,” Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney, a Democrat, said Sunday, according to WPVI-TV.

Attorney from Philippines killed in ‘random’ shooting in Philadelphia

June 20 (UPI) — A government attorney for the Philippines was shot and killed while traveling in an Uber to the Philadelphia airport, authorities and officials said.

Elmer Cato, the consulate general for the Philippines in New York, confirmed via Twitter on Sunday that attorney John Albert Laylo was a victim of a “random shooting incident” in Philadelphia a day prior.

Police laylo-shot-killed-filipino-lawyer-philippines-university-city-philadelphia/”said Laylo and his mother, Leah Bustamante Laylo, were traveling early Saturday in an Uber from University City to Philadelphia International Airport when shots were fired into the vehicle.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that the pair, who were returning home following a trip to the United States, were stopped at a red light when a black car, possibly a Nissan Maxima, drove up behind the Uber and a shooter opened fire. The car then pulled up alongside the Uber and more shots were fired, police said.

Laylo was shot in the back of the head and responding officers transported him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center,uber/3275607/”NBC Philadelphia reported.

Cato said Laylo was put on life support, but authorities later said he was pronounced dead at 10:33 a.m. Sunday.

Philippine government attorney shot and killed while taking Uber to airport with his mother in Philadelphia

Philippine officials on Monday were mourning a government attorney fatally shot in Philadelphia and called for the perpetrator to be brought to justice.

John Albert Laylo and his mother were heading to the airport to board a flight early Saturday when someone in a black car fired several rounds into their Uber at a red light near the University of Pennsylvania, police said. Laylo was shot in the back of the head and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead Sunday, police said.

Philippine Consul General Elmer Cato met Laylo’s mother at the hospital and said she was slightly injured by glass fragments during the shooting.

It wasn’t clear if the Uber driver was injured. No one has been arrested. Authorities did not disclose a suspected motive or say whether Laylo, his mother or the Uber driver were intentionally targeted.

Police say the investigation at this time shows the shooting was random, possibly road-rage related, CBS Philadelphia reported.

The consulate general of the Philippines said the victim was an attorney for its government, the station reported.

Covid-19 Test Maker OraSure Sees New Top Lawyer Quit (Correct)

OraSure Techologies Inc., a diagnostics company that has landed US government contracts to provide coronavirus testing kits, is parting ways with its general counsel Agnieszka “Aggie” Gallagher after seven months on the job.

The company disclosed in a June 9 securities filing that Gallagher—whom OraSure hired in November—will leave as of June 25. OraSure said “organizational changes” prompted Gallagher to terminate her employment with “good reason.”

Gallagher declined a request for comment. Amy Koch, an OraSure spokeswoman, also declined to discuss Gallagher’s pending departure beyond what the Bethlehem, Pa.-based company announced in its 8-K filing.

Bloomberg News reported in January that OraSure had signed nearly $555 million worth of contracts to conduct studies and supply rapid tests for Covid-19.

OraSure announced last month its appointment of a new CEO in Carrie Eglinton Manner. She succeeded interim CEO Nancy Gagliano, who will remain a board member after taking over April 1 from former CEO Stephen Tang. OraSure also said last month it would end its pursuit of “strategic alternatives” to boost shareholder value, such as a sale of the company or major investment.

Under the terms of her contract with OraSure, Gallagher can terminate her employment with “good
