Covid-19 Test Maker OraSure Sees New Top Lawyer Quit (Correct)

OraSure Techologies Inc., a diagnostics company that has landed US government contracts to provide coronavirus testing kits, is parting ways with its general counsel Agnieszka “Aggie” Gallagher after seven months on the job.

The company disclosed in a June 9 securities filing that Gallagher—whom OraSure hired in November—will leave as of June 25. OraSure said “organizational changes” prompted Gallagher to terminate her employment with “good reason.”

Gallagher declined a request for comment. Amy Koch, an OraSure spokeswoman, also declined to discuss Gallagher’s pending departure beyond what the Bethlehem, Pa.-based company announced in its 8-K filing.

Bloomberg News reported in January that OraSure had signed nearly $555 million worth of contracts to conduct studies and supply rapid tests for Covid-19.

OraSure announced last month its appointment of a new CEO in Carrie Eglinton Manner. She succeeded interim CEO Nancy Gagliano, who will remain a board member after taking over April 1 from former CEO Stephen Tang. OraSure also said last month it would end its pursuit of “strategic alternatives” to boost shareholder value, such as a sale of the company or major investment.

Under the terms of her contract with OraSure, Gallagher can terminate her employment with “good

Ohio ‘Permitless Carry’ law goes into effect Monday

Ohio ‘Permitless Carry’ law goes into effect Monday

CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Ohio’s “Permitless Carry” gun law goes into effect on June 13 after Gov. Mike DeWine signed the bill into law in March.

Ohioans 21 years old and older no longer need a permit or to complete the 8-hour handgun training course to carry and conceal a firearm. The law also eliminates requiring gun carriers to inform police officers that they have a concealed weapon on them.

“Public safety isn’t a partisan issue – we all want our communities to be safe from gun violence. Permitless concealed carry makes it exponentially harder for law enforcement to prevent gun crimes which, in turn, makes all of us less safe. And handing someone a gun without adequate training is a recipe for disaster,” Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey said during a press conference Monday.

Ohio Senator Terry Johnson (R-Batavia) sponsored Senate Bill 215 and urged legislatures to vote in favor of it.

“The open carry of firearms is already legal in Ohio, however, once an individual was to put on a sweatshirt or jacket without a concealed carry permit, they would be in violation of the law,” Johnson said to his colleagues prior to SB 215 passing. “Responsible gun owners

Florida Supreme Court hears gun law challenge amid national debate over restrictions

The law being challenged is part of a decades-old “preemption” law approved by the Florida Legislature that prohibits local governments at the city or county level to pass measures stricter than those at the state level. The case the state Supreme Court is weighing will not affect the underlying 1987 preemption law.

“This is a legislative fire hose to put out a birthday candle,” said Edward G. Guedes, an attorney representing the plaintiffs trying to overturn the law.

The state’s high court considered the legal fight in the aftermath of a spate of mass shootings across the country, including one last month in Uvalde, Texas school that left 19 elementary students and two teachers dead, and another in Buffalo, N.Y. that claimed 10 lives. Those shootings and others spurred lawmakers across the country to again fight over how to restrict firearms in the country.

The Florida law was initially overturned in Leon County Circuit Court, but last year the 1st District Court of Appeals overturned that lower court ruling, which prompted Democratic Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried, who is also running for governor, and 30 local governments to appeal the decision to the Florida Supreme Court.

Thongchai Jaidee wins American Family Insurance Championship

MADISON, Wis. — Thongchai Jaidee became the first Thai winner in PGA TOUR Champions history Sunday, closing with a 4-under 68 for a one-stroke victory in the American Family Insurance Championship.

A week after playing his way into the event with a 10th-place finish in Iowa, the 52-year-old Thongchai won in his 19th start on the PGA TOUR Champions.

“Very big thing for me,” Thongchai said. “The game has changed. Now I’m very, very happy to be on tour.”

Thongchai rebounded from a bogey on the par-5 16th with a birdie on the par-3 17th and closed with a par. He finished at 14-under 202 at University Ridge.

“Great tournament here,” Thongchai said. “I played solid, solid, solid. I took one mistake on 16, hit the tree and lost the ball. We make good bogey and try to get my plan. Holed a good putt on 17 and the game changed. I think my confidence in the putting, that’s why helped me a lot for this week.”

Tom Pernice Jr. was second after a 66.

“I’m happy for Thongchai,” Pernice said. “He had a little bad break there on 16 to hit the trees and lose the ball,
